Hickory Pit Stop BBQ Wins in Munfordville

It was a cold, rainy and gloomy day in Munfordville, KY, leaving it to Wright® Brand Bacon to liven up the crowd of 126,000 at the Big Buffalo Crossing Barbecue Cook-off. On Thursday, Oct. 24, Destination: BACON DOMINATION traveled to Munfordville to judge original recipes made with Wright® Brand Bacon, giving away tons of bacon swag and more than 16,000 free samples of the bigger, better bacon.

Many attendees were impressed by the thick cut of the bacon, posing the rhetorical question, “Can bacon get any meatier than Wright® Brand Bacon?”

When it came down to who was the biggest and best – and who made the most delicious food – The Hickory Pit Stop BBQ Team placed first and won their spot to compete in the 2013 Bacon World Championship at the World Food Championships, Nov. 7-10 in Las Vegas.

This Ellison-family BBQ team owns the 56-year-old Hickory Pit Stop BBQ Restaurant in Evansville, IN, saying their food is the best BBQ in the tri-state area. The Ellisons won first place with their recipe for “chicken bacon pinwheel bacon overload,” and are excited for their journey to Vegas.

The WFC annually brings together champions from the world’s biggest and best food competitions and online recipe contests into a single food competition, where champions from each of the seven categories face off before a celebrity panel for culinary fame, a $300,000 prize purse and designation as 2013 World Food Champion.
